Lea Wittenberg is a professor of physical geography and head of the new School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Haifa, Israel. She received her Ph.D. in fluvial geomorphology and sediment transport from the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. Over the past two decades, her research has focused on the role of disturbance in Mediterranean ecosystems, particularly understanding the effects of wildfire on soil properties and related hydrological and erosional processes. In recent years, she has studied ecosystem services in agricultural and natural ecosystems. Methodologically, her studies are based on field and laboratory experiments.
